EVENT: The Canadian Cheese Awards 2016

2016fromage dexception 1000For the first time since its creation, the Canadian Cheese Awards are being held in the province of Quebec. As more imported European cheeses are about to make their way in Canada, it’s important that we to start promoting our own cheeses, especially those made by our country’s finest artisan cheese makers.

Canadian Cheese Awards/Le Concours des fromages fins canadiens 

The Canadian Cheese Awards/Le Concours des fromages fins canadiens is open to artisan cheese producers in Canada, no matter the milk type: cow, goat, sheep and water buffalo. But more specifically, the cheese cannot be made with artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and no modified milk ingredients. The Canadian Cheese Awards only recognizes the finest of Canadian artisan cheese.

This year’s awards ceremony takes place April 14 in Montreal at Palais de Congrès. Wanting to make the gala more accessible to the public, the organizers have decided to open to the public, giving consumers a privileged access to Canada’s finest cheese makers; a first for an industry gala like this one. Quebec artisans shine bright

baluchonQuébec producers show up 47 times among the 25 different categories. Without a doubt, Quebec cheese artisans make some of the very best products in Canada. Awards like these make our producers shine bright all across the country. The inaugural edition of the Canadian Cheese Awards recognized Le Baluchon from F.X Pichet in Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade as the Cheese of the Year. A fromage d’exception that has since then made its way to many hearts.
