Cocktail guru Patrice Plante is opening an all-things-mixology boutique in Saint-Roch next month. Monsieur Cocktail will feature everything from shakers to bitters as well as Patrice’s very own line of syrups.

“It”s hard to find decent cocktail products in Quebec City. I thought to myself, why don’t I go for it and open a boutique where one can find a wider variety of cocktail-related products,” says Patrice. His properly named Monsieur Cocktail boutique will be located beside Poutineville on the east part of rue Saint-Joseph. “If everything goes according to plan, doors will open around November 14.”

Monsieur Cocktail will be located inside Rituels, a specialty store selling an exclusive line of handmade steel blades and shaving accessories. Groomed beards and cocktails, such a great pairing.

Cocktail Courses

Patrice has also recently started his very own cocktail school located inside l’Atelier bistro on Grande-Allée. His early childhood dream of being a teacher has finally come true. École de Mixologie Patrice Plante features 10 courses that cover the history of cocktails, prohibition as well as specific spirits courses.

I attended the first course, Cocktails 101. Even though I consider myself a knowledgeable cocktail artist, I left the three-hour “introduction” class with a better understanding of shaking and stirring techniques and a list of necessary cocktail tools for my home bar. I highly recommend this 101, even if you’re a barman. In fact, a few barmen were in the attendance. Some were even telling me that they signed up especially because they want to perfect their technique. According to some of them, the cocktail industry lacks in proper teaching and Patrice Plante is responding to a sought-after need. Thus the reason why I’ve already signed up for the spirits course on whiskey, scotch & bourbon.

Patrice has teamed-up with industry professionals like Baptiste Gissinger from Québec Rhum, and Patrick Beaulieu former sommelier of Le Cercle.
